Project Overview:
Arloon Solar System is an educational application that leverages augmented reality (AR) to offer an immersive exploration of our solar system. This app provides a fascinating and interactive way to learn about astronomy, making it easy to understand complex concepts related to celestial bodies and their movements. Despite its rich content, Arloon Solar System is designed to be lightweight, occupying around 50 megabytes of storage.
Role and Contributions:
As the lead artist for this project, I was responsible for both design investigation and the artistic elements of the app. My role involved researching and creating accurate visual representations of the solar system, ensuring the app was both educational and visually engaging.
Key Features:
- Augmented Reality Integration: Arloon Solar System uses AR to display detailed 3D models of the solar system’s planets and other celestial bodies. This allows users to explore these objects as if they were at their fingertips.
- Educational Content: The app is designed to meet the goals and content of the primary education syllabus. It covers various astronomical concepts such as eclipses, Earth’s trajectory, rotations, and orbits, making these topics accessible and stimulating for students.
- Interactive Learning: Users can interact with 3D models, rotate and zoom in on planets, and explore their features. The app includes exercises for different levels, enabling students to practice, check their understanding, and collaborate according to their individual needs.
- Lightweight and Efficient: Despite its extensive content and advanced AR features, Arloon Solar System is optimized to be a very light app, requiring only about 50 megabytes of storage space. This ensures easy download and use on a variety of devices.

Visual and Technical Achievements:
- Design Investigation: My role included conducting thorough research to ensure the accuracy of visual representations of the solar system. This involved collaborating with astronomers and educators to gather reliable data and translate it into detailed 3D models.
- Detailed 3D Models: I created high-quality 3D models of planets and other celestial objects, focusing on scientific accuracy and visual appeal. Each model was designed to enhance the educational experience by providing clear and engaging visuals.
- Engaging User Interface: The app’s user interface was designed to be intuitive and accessible, allowing users of all ages to navigate and interact with the content easily. Interactive elements and animations were integrated to make learning more engaging and effective.
Summary:
Arloon Solar System demonstrates the potential of augmented reality in education by providing an interactive and visually rich way to explore astronomy. As the lead artist, I played a crucial role in design investigation and creating the visual content that makes the app both educational and enjoyable. Our focus on creating a lightweight and efficient application ensures that Arloon Solar System is accessible to a wide audience, making it a valuable tool for students, educators, and anyone interested in the wonders of our solar system.
